Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins’ family and wife have launched a civil lawsuit in an attempt to get answers to any unanswered concerns around the unfortunate 24-year-old’s death.
It is believed that Haskins was the victim of a “blackmail and robbery conspiracy” the night he died, possibly involving the dump truck driver who struck him on the Florida freeway, according to a press statement sent by his lawyer, The Ellsley Law Firm.
“Many questions remain as to why the truck driver did not avoid hitting Dwayne given the highly visible activity in the area before the impact and the fact that the other drivers did not hit Dwayne,” according to the press statement. “The cell phone records of the truck driver have not yet been made public. The report also states that the driver has not yet submitted the alcohol readings and declined to give a blood sample to the responding police.
“Many questions remain about what went on in the hours leading up to Dwayne’s death. Dwayne was allegedly singled out and drugged as a part of a plot including robbery and extortion.”
Haskins, who had spent the weekend exercising with his colleagues on the Steelers, was killed when he was hit by a truck while trying to cross an interstate in Florida. The toxicology result states that Haskins had ketamine in his system and was under the effects of alcohol when he passed away.
Initial accounts from the evening before his death state that Haskins got into a fight with a man he said he knew at a Florida club. After then, Haskins fled the scene and ended up driving on the freeway.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the legal firm via phone or email in the release.
