Two steelers wonder stars surgery, remain in concussion protocol.
Watt and Highsmith practiced at their respective outside linebacker positions on Tuesday in what could be a good sign for their availability for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ game against the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday. Both were listed on the league’s injury report as limited participants, meaning they are both still in the NFL’s concussion protocol.
While there’s no guarantee that either of them will be available on Saturday, the fact that they’re both cleared to practice means there’s a good chance they’ll both be cleared in time for the Colts game.
Watt suffered what was initially reported as a neck injury last Thursday in the Steelers’ loss to New England. He was hit in the face inadvertently early in the game, but returned and played the rest of the game. The Steelers announced on Saturday that he had been placed in the concussion protocol.
Herbig and Golden are the team’s best backups at outside linebackers.
Injury report: Kazee (knee) limited; Pierre (knee) full
Here are the other injury reports from Tuesday’s practice:
Safety Kazee was listed as a “limited participant” after being listed as a full participant on last week’s injury report. While the rest of the players on the report had pre-existing injuries, Kazee’s ankle injury wasn’t previously reported.
On the defensive side of the ball, three starters sat out practice: defensive end Cameron Heyward, who suffered a groin injury against the New England Patriots. He played through it and isn’t expected to be affected by Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Cameron Heyward was limited at practice with a groin injury.
Veteran defensive end Markus Golden was limited with a knee injury. He hasn’t played in a game yet.
Two defensive backs, Pierre Pierre and Ryan Shazier, were limited with injuries that have been on the report for a long time but haven’t stopped them from playing. Pierre has yet to play in a game.
James Pierre, the reserve cornerback, practiced fully on Monday, which suggests he’ll be back in action on Saturday. Pierre missed last week’s game against the New England Patriots due to an injury to his shoulder.
Kenny Pickett will miss his second game in a row on Saturday due to an ankle injury, Tomlin said on Monday.
