BAD NEWS: Texans player killed in auto accident

Following the death of practice squad member Brown, whose automobile went over after hitting a curb, a Cowboys player has been placed under arrest.

Less than a week has passed after Dallas Cowboys player Jerry Brown Jr. died in a car accident with another player, and tragedy has befallen the league once more.

Following the one-car collision early yesterday morning, Josh Brent, a defensive lineman with the Cowboys, faces charges of homicide by drunk driving.

Early this morning, Brent was driving a car that included practice squad linebacker Brown when it struck a curb, spun over, and came to a stop upside down.

Brown, 25, was unconscious when police arrived on the scene and was subsequently declared dead at a nearby hospital.

After taking a sobriety test at the scene of the incident, Brent was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated. According to authorities, he was then charged with drink driving manslaughter and taken into the Irving City Jail.

This weekend’s game against Cincinnati was supposed to mark the Cowboys’ sixth season opener for nose tackle Brent, who had minor cuts.

From 2007 to 2009, the two were teammates at the University of Illinois.

The owner of Dallas, Jerry Jones, expressed his tremendous sadness for the accident and Jerry Brown’s passing.

“At this time, our hearts and prayers and deepest sympathies are with the members of Jerry’s family and all of those who knew him and loved him.”

In a little more than a week, the NFL has seen two tragedies.

Jovan Belcher, a linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs, killed himself last week outside Arrowhead Stadium, just minutes after shooting and killing his fiancée.

The Cowboys have been contacted by the NFL, which released a statement saying, “We have staff members and independent professional counselors on hand to help the team cope with this tragedy.”

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jerry Brown and extend our condolences to his family, friends, and the Cowboys organisation.”

Terry Jones, the owner of the Cowboys, released the following statement: “We are extremely grieved by the news of this accident and Jerry Brown’s demise.

“At this time, our hearts and prayers and deepest sympathies are with the members of Jerry’s family and all of those who knew him and loved him.”
