Giants wide receiver ‘hurt’ by team’s decision ahead of ‘MNF’ game against Packers.
Parris Campbell has been steadily removed from the New York Giants’ offense throughout the season. However, in Week 14, the veteran wide receiver experienced something he had never seen before in his five years in the NFL.
On Monday night, Campbell was inactive for New York’s “Monday Night Football” home game against Green Bay Packers. The wide receiver said he was “speechless” at the team’s decision.
The G-Men played on Monday, so they had extra time to decide on Campbell’s status for Sunday, something the wideout acknowledged he appreciated. According to Leonard, though, he was still “frustrated.”
According to the beat writer, the “respected vet” believes he’s “doing everything right,” and that he’s added “a spark” as a returner.
On Thursday, special teams coordinator Tom McGaughey weighed in on the matter.
Campbell enjoyed a breakout year in 2022 with the Colts, signing a one-year $3 million contract with New York last March. The 2019 second-round selection set career highs in receptions (91), targets (63), yards (623), and receiving touchdowns (3) in his final season with Indianapolis, playing in all 17 regular-season games (16 starts) and starting all 16 games.
Campbell has faced a revolving door of quarterback play in New York (just like he did in Indianapolis) and his numbers have suffered. The Ohio State product has just 20 catches for 104 total yards on 27 targets in 12 games (three starts) and just four catches for 19 since Week 6. For the first time since 2013, he has seen time as a returner, returning eight punts for 191 yards.
