DONE DEAL: In a risky free agency move, the Pittsburgh Steelers sign this…..

After finishing the regular season with 10 victories and 7 losses, the Pittsburgh Steelers qualified for the postseason. They had an unlikely run in the postseason, but were defeated by the Buffalo Bills in the opening round. After starter Kenny Pickett and backup Mitch Trubisky sustained injuries that kept Mason Rudolph as the starting quarterback for the remainder of the season, many fans believe the Steelers need to acquire a new quarterback. The franchise is currently being associated with a promising quarterback from the NFC South, whom they may try to sign in free agency if he becomes available.

Pro Football Focus and ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky reported that, should Baker Mayfield of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers become available to sign during the summer, Pittsburgh should make a move to sign him. Mayfield sees the Bucs playing in the divisional round of the playoffs against the Detroit Lions, having exceeded all preseason projections for the team.

The Steelers ought to be the first team to contact the quarterback about a deal if he were to become available, even if it doesn’t appear probable that the Bucs will lose their quarterback. Pittsburgh has had multiple quarterback problems in 2023; Mayfield would be a terrific addition, and Baker might be the missing component for their offense.

Like when he led the Cleveland Browns to the playoffs in his second and third seasons with the team, Mayfield appears to be playing at a high level right now that no one was expecting, despite the fact that he has not lived up to the expectations of being the first selection in the NFL draft. He had the best statistical season of his career in the Tampa Bay regular season of 2023, with 4,044 passing yards and 28 touchdowns.

Even though Mayfield will probably stay with the Bucs in 2024, it would make a lot of sense for the quarterback to join with the Steelers if he becomes available. He is currently in the midst of a playoff run with the intention of surprising everyone and winning a Super Bowl. Do you believe Mayfield will return to Tampa Bay for the upcoming season, or will he want to play for another team that needs a quarterback?
