Gaint super DeVito contract has been terminated NFL REPORT.
Giants backup quarterback Daniel Jones was lost for the season, and soon after, backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor went down with a knee injury. As a result, former Syracuse quarterback Tommy DeVito was thrust into the starting role in New York, and he’s earned plenty of attention for his strong play on the field, as well as some interesting details about his off-field life, such as his parents still living with him.
This has been seen as a savvy financial move by some, while others have seen it as a smart move for a late-round pick or free agent whose future in the NFL is anything but certain.
Let’s take a look at everything you need to know about the contract of Tommy DeVito, including salary.
New York signed Tommy DeVito out of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in April of 2024 following the NFL Draft. He signed a 3-year contract with the Giants that pays him $2.7 million over the first three years. However, the rest of his contract is non-guaranteed, meaning if he is cut, he will lose any money he has not earned. This season, he carries a $416.667 cap hit. In 2024, his cap hit will drop to $915.000, and his base salary will be $10.000. The Giants have nine games left on their active roster, so DeVito could make a lot more money in his rookie year than initially expected.
For every game that DeVito is on the active roster for, the Giants will pay him approximately $44.000 per week.
The Giants will stay at home this week to take on the Packers on “Monday Night Football” as the young quarterback continues to make his case for the starting job.
This season, DeVito has completed 62.9% of his passes for 697 yards, 7 touchdowns and 3 INTs.
Depending on how things play out, DeVito will have the chance to close out the season as the starter with games against the Packers, the Saints, the Eagles and the Rams, and then a second game against the Eagles in the season finale.
Ventura has already made one significant move, moving up on the depth chart to replace Taylor when the latter was placed on the inactive list.
Giants coach BrianDaboll said that Taylor will be the number two quarterback when he returns to the active roster.
