SAN ANTONIO Due to tendinitis in his left knee, guard Anthony Carter’s contract was bought out by the San Antonio Spurs on Friday, allowing him to become a free agency.
Carter is expected to have surgery and then go through a rehabilitation regimen in order to return to the court before the season ends.
“To reach this consensus, we collaborated with one another,” stated R.C. Buford, general manager of the Spurs. A.C. put in a lot of effort and fulfilled all of our requests when he was in San Antonio. However, given his knee’s state, it was the best moment for all parties to take this action.
In the offseason, Carter committed to a two-year, $1.5 million deal with the Spurs. He was signed on as Tony Parker’s backup, but he only appeared in five games, averaging 2.4 assists and 4.4 points. Carter was sidelined for 13 games due to injury.
Journeyman Jason Hart has been the Spurs’ backup point guard while Carter has been out.
Carter has had a difficult year when his agent neglected to submit the necessary paperwork to exercise a $4.1 million option in his Miami Heat contract, causing him to become a free agency.
Parker was still healing from a serious ankle sprain, but Carter started at point guard for San Antonio on opening night.
That evening, he played 34 minutes against Phoenix and finished with 10 points and 6 assists. However, he was limited to just 10 minutes in the team’s second game before being placed on the disabled list.
