Terrence Clarke, a basketball player at the University of Kentucky, lost his life in a two-vehicle collision on Thursday in the Northridge section in the San Fernando Valley.
The 19-year-old Clarke was driving south on Winnetka Avenue at around 2:00 p.m. when he approached a red light at the junction with Nordhoff Street, according to Los Angeles police. According to the police, Clarke ran a red light and struck another vehicle that was trying to turn left at the intersection.
Officers reported that Clarke’s car kept going and struck a light pole and a brick wall. After being transported to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, Clarke passed away.
A security camera nearby recorded the collision. Nobody else sustained any injuries.
Clarke played guard for the Wildcats of Kentucky. His coach said he had just finished his freshman year and was getting ready for the 2021 NBA draft. Due to a leg injury sustained previous season, Clarke only made eight appearances.
Speaking on Thursday, Kentucky head coach John Calipari remarked, “I am absolutely gutted and sick tonight.” “We have all lost a young person we love far too soon, one who had so many hopes and goals ahead of him. Terrence Clarke was a charming young man whose demeanor, grin, and enthusiasm made him the center of attention.”
“He was a magnet for people,” Calipari continued. And it’s just difficult for all of us to accept at this moment that we have lost him. Everybody is stunned.
