Damontae Kazee vs. Michael Pittman Jr.: NFL Fans Back Pittsburgh Steelers Safety After Being Expanded For Hitting Pittman Jr.

Steelers fans and many members of the NFL media are taking Kazee’s side after he hit Pittman Jr., head-first, and was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct and kicked out of the game.

Social media users took to Twitter to rail against the Steelers’ safety, with accusations being hurled at the Colts’ quarterback, Gardner Minshew, as well as Pittman Jr.

After the hit, Pittman Jr. went to the locker room with a concussion and did not return. Pittsburgh would go on to lose 30-13 to the Indianapolis Colts.

After the game, Pittsburgh’s Mike Tomlin said he believed the decision to suspend Kazee was made “from New York, which means the league office.”

“It was hard, of course, to see ‘Pitt’ go,” Colts coach Ryan Grigson said. “He’s tough as nails, and it’s been proven time and time again, the toughness that he brings, the credibility that he brings, year after year.

I must go back and review them, Steichen said. “Of course, you don’t want to see players get hurt. These are high-risk, high-reward plays. It’s hard to do in real-time. Of course, you wouldn’t want that happening to your player. But on the other hand, we wouldn’t do that either.”

The ejection wasn’t Kazee’s first. When he was with the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2 of last year, Kazee was penalized for lunging into Cam Newton’s helmet.
