49ers Release another failed high chaperons pick.

In the midst of the 49ers’ resurgence this year, another high draft pick has been let go.

Tyrion Davis-Price was released by the 49ers on Tuesday, one day after the team announced the signing of safety Logan Ryan.

This marks the second time the 49ers have let go of a third-round draft pick in four months, following their earlier trade of quarterback Trey Lance to Dallas Cowboys before the start of this season.

Drafted by the 49ers out of LSU in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Davis-Price played in seven career games over less than two seasons, with San Francisco playing him one all season. He had six total carries for 21 yards.

He was good early in the year last year, and he was even better when we weren’t wearing pads. But then as we began to play games, things changed throughout the season, and he wasn’t as good as he had been in the past.

“He’s looking like a man who’s on a mission,” San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said in August.

Last year, he showed promise early in the season. He showed promise when we weren’t wearing pads. But then as we began to play, things changed throughout the season. It wasn’t quite as good as it used to be,” San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offensive coordinator, Chris Foerster, told the media in August through NBC Sports Bay Area. “He looks like a guy on a mission right now.”

Unfortunately for Davis-Price, the 49ers’ star running back, Christian McCaffrey, was able to carve out a role for him. Davis-Price’s only game this season came in a 42-10 drubbing of the Cowboys back in October.

Lance didn’t play in that game, either, when the Cowboys hosted his former team. Dallas hasn’t used him much this season after he dropped off the 49ers’ depth chart in training camp behind QBs Brock Purdy and QB Sam Darnold.

The departure of Davis-Price marks the second consecutive year the 49ers have missed on a third-round draft pick.

The 2021 selection of former Ohio State tailback Trey Sermon did not live up to expectations, rushing for just 167 yards and one touchdown on 41 attempts in nine games in 2021. The Niners waived Sermon before the start of 2022.

Sermon has since gone on to play for the Philadelphia Eagles, as well as the Indianapolis Colts. In his career, he has 51 total carries for 210 total yards and one touchdown, along with four catches for 30 yards.

Coming out of college, Sermon was described by Pro Football Network’s Ian Cummings as a “big, versatile back” and “potential three-down backup.” Zierlein, on the other hand, saw Sermon as a “middle-round pick” who “has yet to reach his full potential in the NFL.”

The 49ers’ 2022 Draft Class

Aside from Davis-Price’s departure, the 2022 draft class has been relatively uneventful. Purdy, taken in the final round, has been the best of the bunch, with an MVP caliber season so far. Second-rounder Drake Jackson, a defensive end, has 3 sacks and 4 tackles this season, but he was placed on IR last month with an ACL injury. Third-rounder Danny Gray has 1 career catch for 7 yards, but has been on IR this year. Fourth-rounder Spencer buford, an offensive lineman, has 27 career starts with 2 tackles in 3 games this year. Fifth-rounder Samuel womack III is a cornerback.
