Agbonlahor is adamant that Aston Villa can match Arsenal’s objective.

According to reports, Arsenal is once again considering Douglas Luiz as a midfield option who could improve the team.

At the end of the current campaign, Thomas Partey is anticipated to leave the Emirates, so Arsenal must find a replacement for the Ghanaian.

During the summer of 2022, Arsenal showed interest in Luiz, and on the day of the deadline, they placed multiple bids for the Brazilian. All those offers, though, were turned down by Aston Villa.

Villa is now playing in European competitions and has remained an ambitious club, so it will be harder for them to let go of Luiz.

Manchester City Considering Re-Signing Aston Villa's Douglas Luiz

Gabby Agbonlahor, a former striker for Villa, thinks that Villa can pay Luiz competitive wages that are on par with Arsenal’s, which could make the transfer more difficult.

To Football Insider, he says:

“He’s playing in Europe, he’s starting every week, and he’s playing some of his best football, so I think he will.

How come you wouldn’t sign? Watkins, McGinn, and Konsa are just a few of the players he will undoubtedly follow at Aston Villa, a huge club.

“Villa is currently paying extremely high compensation. Big money. They are able to pay wages on par with many other teams, including Arsenal.

“If the club can close that deal, I wouldn’t be surprised.”

Only Arsenal’s viewpoint

Luiz will be much more difficult to sign at this point because Villa wants to retain all of their best players as they look to reclaim their position as a top Premier League team.

We could still attempt to sign him in the summer, though, and if we make the Villans a strong offer, the former Manchester City player might accept our offer.
