Sam Lammers gets flayed by Derek Ferguson for a “horrendous” Rangers moment against Dundee.
Minutes before Sam Lammers scored for Rangers in their 5-0 victory over Dundee, Derek Ferguson blasted him for a “horrendous” incident.

On Wednesday, November 1, the Light Blues maintained their perfect record under Philippe Clement’s leadership with a remarkable performance that was perhaps their best thus far under the former Monaco manager.

After watching Lammers stumble and fall midway through the second half, Ferguson was quick to concede that the Dutchman still has a lot to learn in the upcoming weeks. Lammers scored his second goal in the Scottish Premiership with a “terrific” long-range effort.

He said, “I watched the Hearts game again on Monday and couldn’t believe how poor he was,” in an interview with Open Goal on November 2. What a lucky boy to get off to a start. Even last night, when he was popping the ball off, he was putting pressure on his teammates by giving up possession.

“As the new manager, he has an amazing goal of sticking with these guys to get the best performance out of them. Although we haven’t seen it outside of the objective, there must be quality there somewhere.

“He looks terrible and is all over the place when he falls in the box two or three minutes before the goal.”

A horrifying

Although Lammers was an excellent striker, one goal would have greatly reduced the immediate pressure on him. However, aside from one magical second-half minute, Wednesday’s performance was largely unremarkable overall.

Lammers has frequently appeared a little out of place in the Light Blues lineup. Although Ferguson isn’t entirely off base in his assessment of Lammers’ Rangers career thus far, Clement needs to see more of the Dutchman in the upcoming days and weeks.

He gives up possession or misses a great opportunity far too frequently; fortunately, he made up for it on Wednesday with his goal. However, considering how he’s played at Ibrox thus far, it seems doubtful that he will consistently curl one in from 25 yards.

But few things are more likely to boost confidence than a goal of that caliber, and Lammers’ performance against Dundee may have been the catalyst Lammers needed to launch his Rangers career. All that’s left is for supporters to witness that evident quality on display more frequently than they have thus far.
