Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has praised right-back Pedro Porro after his performances in the opening stages of the season.
Ange Postecoglou has praised Pedro Porro after impressing for Tottenham Hotspur this season.
Spurs beat Liverpool 2-1 on Saturday night, but that doesn’t come close to telling the story of a cheating game.
Curtis Jones picked up a straight red card and Luis Diaz’s goal was wrongly ruled out before Son Heung-min put Tottenham in charge.
Cody Gakpo drew Liverpool level but Diogo Jota then picked up another red card to leave the Reds down to nine men. Liverpool fought back admirably but hearts were broken when Joel Matip headed Pedro Porro’s cross into his own net to give Spurs the win.

Ange Postecoglou praises Tottenham Hotspur ace Pedro Porro
The winning goal came for Tottenham when Porro stepped forward in the final third to make a big impact.
We tend to see Porro best from a striker’s point of view.
Porro has scored three goals and provided four assists for Tottenham since joining from Sporting in January.
Spurs spent big on Porro; A total of £44m when they signed a loan deal for £5m before making a permanent move for £39m.
Ange Postecoglou seems to love Porro’s attacking play as well as his development defensively. Postecoglou told SPURSPLAY that he thinks Porro has been “outstanding” this season, especially since he was on the bench for Brentford’s season opener.
Postecoglou noted that Porro has adapted very well this season and has shown his technical and athletic abilities.
The Australian added that Porro has worked very closely with coach Matt Wells to improve his defensive game

“Pedro was great,” said Postecoglou. – He didn’t start the first game, but right after the preseason he really adjusted. Obviously, we want our full-backs to have a different role than what they’re used to, but I think he and Destiny have adapted to it very well.

“They’re trying to learn, they’re trying to understand it. I think it suits him in many ways because he is such a good football player. Technically he is a very good footballer and he is also a great athlete. You could see today. We needed him and Destiny to be there today with Micky because when you see their speed in transition, we really needed our guys to be there on defense.

“He works really hard in that area, especially Matt Wells and the whole back, all the defenders have worked really hard with Matty Wells just on their defensive principles and I think you can see the fruits of their labour,” he added.

Porro Statistics – Liverpool
Whether Porro’s assist counts as a Matip own goal or not, the former Manchester City ace was statistically outstanding against Liverpool.

Showing his technical side, Porro collected three key passes, one successful cross and one accurate cross.

However, the impact of the defense was also in place, as Porro had six hits and five blocks, as well as one interception, one successful aerial shot and blocked two shots.

This is really impressive from Porro and it looks like Postecoglou is really benefiting from him after an up and down start at Tottenham earlier this year.
