TERRIBLE NEWS: What took place with Oklahoma LB?

The Oklahoma Sooners lost to the Kansas Jayhawks for the first time this season. The Sooners must deal with more than just their regret in losing to Kansas; they also have an injury scare.

An ankle injury was sustained by junior linebacker Danny Stutsman on a third-down stop shortly before halftime. Before he left the field once more, he came back for one defensive play and one punt coverage play. Kip Lewis, a redshirt freshman, took his position.

FOX’s Allison Williams reported that Stutsman’s ankle was taped and that he had trouble walking.

“I’ve been keeping an eye on Danny Stutsman for Oklahoma, he has not played in this half. His right ankle is heavily taped,” Williams said. “You can tell when he’s walking on it that it’s bothering him a bit. Now he does have his helmet on, standing on the edge of the field, looking like he’d love to be back out there. As of now, he hasn’t quite been able to go.”

The seriousness of Stutsman’s injury is not known yet, but the team would be hoping to have the junior linebacker back in action as soon as possible.

Stutsman was not the only injury scare during the loss to Kansas. Another linebacker, Jaren Kanak, also had to leave the game due to an injury. But while Kanak was able to return to the game, Stutsman wasn’t.

Exploring Danny Stutsman and Oklahoma’s season so far

The Oklahoma Sooners were having an incredible ride this season until their loss to the Kansas Jayhawks in Week 9. The Sooners’ offense scored 73 points against Arkansas State, 66 against Tulsa, and 50 against Iowa State.

The defense has been equally instrumental to the Sooners’ form, with Danny Stutsman having an instrumental role. The defense came to the rescue in games where the offense couldn’t get big breakthroughs, such as against Cincinnati and SMU.

Stutsman has 70 tackles this season — 32 solo and 38 assisted.

With the loss against Kansas, the Oklahoma Sooners are now 7-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play. The team remains at the top of the Big 12 standings, followed closely by the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Ultimately, Oklahoma fans will hope the loss against Kansas is only a minor setback and that the injury sustained by Stutsman is not serious.
