Ben Jacobs, a transfer journalist, claims that Arsenal is interested in acquiring Douglas Luiz, a key player for Aston Villa, during the next transfer window.

With 40 points from 18 games, the Gunners lead the Premier League table after an incredible start to the season. Promising achievements have also been made in Europe, where the Emirates club has qualified for the Champions League round of 16 as group leaders.

In the last-16 of Europe’s top club competition, Mikel Arteta’s team will play FC Porto, and it is anticipated that they will advance far in this competition this year.

It appears that the North London team has been preparing to bolster their roster in January in order to provide Arteta the tools he needs to contend for every position in the second half of the current season.

It has widely been suggested that Arsenal have been contemplating purchasing a new striker in January, but signing a new midfielder to reinforce their engine room is seemingly also on the Gunners’ agenda.

Speaking on, Jacobs has reported that Arsenal will make moves in January to reinforce their squad and have identified Luiz as the ‘top target’ to bolster the midfield department.

But according to the writer, Aston Villa is also vying for the championship this year, so they wouldn’t want to lose their best player in the middle of the campaign. As a result, Arsenal’s task of luring the Brazilian away from Villa Park next month won’t be simple.

Jacobs adds that Arsenal is also keeping an eye on Joao Palhinha in addition to Luiz. However, Bayern Munich might put up a strong fight if they try to close a deal for him.

Furthermore, the reporter states Fulham

In addition, the journalist says Fulham want a big fee to sell their star man in January so it won’t be easy for Arsenal to sign the Portugal international either.

Jacobs said:

“Arsenal will look to reinforce in January. They are in a relatively similar position to last season in the sense they are firmly in the title race, but this time around it’s much tighter. There’s really not much between them Liverpool, Aston Villa and Manchester City.
