In today’s NFL, toughness is a thing of the past. But when it comes to the Detroit Lions, there’s no better example than center Frank Ragnow. Ragnow’s story of playing through unbearable pain is a testament to the true spirit of sportsmanship. His latest performance against the Denver Broncos, just two weeks after meniscus surgery, is nothing short of remarkable.

Lions coach Dan Campbell spoke to the media Monday and shared his thoughts on Ragnow and how his mental toughness surpasses his physical limitations.

Campbell Highlights Frank Ragnow and Reveals One Of His Biggest Concerns

Ragnow’s resilience in the face of multiple injuries, including persistent toe, knee and back problems, speaks to his unwavering loyalty to his teammates and his fear of disappointing them.

“I called Frank after his surgery and he probably didn’t even remember me because he was so focused on what he was doing, but he said, ‘I’ll be ready for tomorrow’s game, I’ll be ready for practice on Wednesday,’ ” Campbell recalled. “And he was, and he kept saying that every day. And that’s the way Frank is. He will will himself. We talk about it all the time, but the good ones do it.

He’s a tough guy and he’s a mind over substance, but in the end, what it boils down to for him is, you could say, he’s scared to disappoint his teammates, Campbell said. “That means the world to him. That’s just the guy, and that’s why guys respect him so much.”
