In addition to being a highly regarded musician, Eminem has always been a Detroit Lions fan. Now, he wants to play for the team in the hopes of helping them win.

On January 15, at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, the NFL team defeated the Los Angeles Rams 24-23, ending a 32-year postseason drought. After this victory, the Lions will play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Divisional Round of the 2023–24 NFL Playoffs on January 21. This means the Lions can now boast two home playoff games for the first time in team history.

On Monday night, the Buccaneers defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 32–9. The next game at Raymond James Stadium will be a replay of the two teams’ encounter from Week Six.

Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, begged Lions coach Dan Campbell to allow him to join the team in an Instagram video. “Coach Dan, you still have the offer. The post was titled, “I’m around for Sunday, lmk [let me know].”

Through Universal Music, Newsweek emailed the Detroit Lions and Eminem on Wednesday for response.

“Hey, Dan, I’m going to report on the third quarter. The rapper, who will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, stated in the video, “I’m reporting offensive line, eligible receiver, I’ll be the quarterback, the entire line, offensive line, and the receiver.”

“And in the third quarter, I’ll toss it to myself and score a touchdown. Please just give me a helmet, or a uniform at the very least. Though it’s just a regular helmet, I already own one for football, so sure, man, I’m here! I promise to be there on that particular night. I’ll suit up and give us the winning touchdown in the third quarter.”

People discussed their opinions on his plea in the comments section.

One user remarked, “Imagine seeing Eminem out on the field in a bicycle helmet throwing himself a winning touchdown,” followed with an emoticon of sobbing.

Another person wrote, “To put it another way, put me in coach.”

“This dude deserves a uniform! He received a helmet as well,” a third writer said.

“I will be a Lions fan for a day, to see you play,” a fourth person said.

Some seized the chance to ask that he put out new music.

“Oh my goodness, Shady! One Instagram user wrote, “I’m reporting: we miss youuuu (talking about new album).”

One more person said, “Bro just drop the new album,”

This season, Eminem has been spotted at a number of Lions games. In previous years, he has also occupied the commentary booth.

Before they faced the Rams on January 15, the Lions had held the record for the longest streak without an NFL playoff win as they hadn’t won a playoff game since January 1992. They also hadn’t hosted a playoff game since they were defeated by the Green Bay Packers in January 1994.
