Tennessee top WR carted ruled out.

Tennessee lost a star quarterback in last year’s game against South Carolina in the second half when Hendon hooker suffered a season-ending ACL tear, and it looks like the Volunteers could suffer a similar fate on Saturday night when WR Bru McCoy was carted off the field after suffering a seemingly season-ending injury to his lower leg.

The injury was so bad that it left quarterback Joe Milton in a state of shock. SEC Network declined to show the replay due to the nature of the play.

Here’s the latest on Bru McCoy’s status after being carted off the field.

While SEC Network chose not to show the replay, it was difficult to determine the exact moment of the injury based on the replay itself. McCoy’s feet got caught under South Carolina defensive back Marcellas Dial who landed on his legs.

At the end of the play, McCoy’s left foot and lower leg appeared to be pointing in the wrong direction. McCoy immediately covered his head with his hands as trainers ran to his side.

Milton and other teammates were visibly shaken as medical personnel worked on his leg.

The video of McCoy’s injury can be seen below, but be aware that it contains graphic language.

Multiple outlets have reported that McCoy’s leg was wrapped in an airbag before he was taken away on a stretcher.

Tennessee has yet to provide an official statement on McCoy’s status, but it’s clear that he could be facing a season-ending injury.

Before halftime, Heupel said the injury was “obviously not good” and praised McCoy’s “tough” character.

On Sunday, Tennessee announced that McCoy had undergone surgery to correct a broken bone in his right ankle. The Vols said he is “beginning the journey to recovery with a determination to make this a small setback in his football career.”

The 5-star recruit transferred to the Vols from USC in the summer of 2022. Last season, McCoy had 667 yards rushing and four touchdowns while playing a key role in Tennessee’s high-powered offense. He had a game-winning TD catch in the Orange Bowl last December and had 15 receptions through the first four games of this season.
