DONE DEAL: Tottenham has signed “fascinating” £25m star.
Tottenham has signed “fascinating” £25m star.
He’s been called a real one to watch.
Tottenham Hotspur are in serious trouble as they continue to suffer from a growing list of absentees, with 10 players either out of action or suspended.
It has been reported that Spurs could sign an “exciting” player on a loan deal during the January transfer window, as Ange postecoglou seeks to bolster his team.
The latest news is that James Maddison is out of action with a knee injury, while Cristian Romero and Richarlison are also out with knocks.
Ryan Sessegnon is also out with an ankle injury, while Manolo Gabbiadini is out with a knee injury.
Manuel Solomon is out with a calf injury, while Ashley Phillips is out with a back injury and Pape Mathar Sarr is out with a thigh injury.
Rodrigo Bentancur is also a long-term absentee.
A significant number of these players are now not expected to return until the summer of 2024, including summer stars such as Maddison, van de Ven and Perisic.
Perisic, Soloman and Bentancur will also be out of action for the time being, with Bentancur’s ankle ligament injury suffered against Aston Villa having ruled him out for the rest of the season.
Bissouma and Sarr are expected to be out of action shortly after the start of the new season, while Son and Heung-min will be representing their respective national teams at AFCON and Asia Cup respectively.
As a result, the January transfer window is a critical one for the Aussie and his new sporting director, Johan Lange.
Lange’s role is to advise chairman Daniel Levy and chief football officer Scott Munn on their targets.
It has been reported that the priority is a left-sided center-back for Spurs, but Postecoglou has also said he is keen to bolster his options on the wing.
This has led to speculation that he is looking to sign Al-Itihad winger Jota on loan.
Jota, 24, cost Celtic £25 million in the summer, but has not yet established himself as a star at the club and could look to return to Europe.
According to a report by 90min, Jota would be keen to link back up with the Aussie at Tottenham.
“It’s a possibility,” said The Standard’s Niaar Kinsella. “Postecoglou wants to sign a winger as soon as possible.”
A large number of those players are now projected to be back in the summer of 2023, including summer sensation Maddison and van de Ven, as well as Perisic and Soloman.
On the other hand, Bentancur’s ankle ligament ligament injury against Aston Villa has ruled him out until the end of the season, while Bissouma, Sarr and Son will be out for a few weeks after the new season kicks off.
Son will be playing for South Korea at the AFCON and the Asia Cup.
