Packers fans heckle MVS after he scores game-winning touchdown against the Chiefs on Monday night

MVS was never a fan favorite with the Green Bay Packers. Acquired in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft as a wide receiver, MVS spent four seasons with the Packers under the watchful eye of one of the best QBs of all time, Aaron Rodgers.

When MVS hit free agency after the 2021 season, he signed with Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs to play alongside another legendary quarterback. At the time, his three-year, $30 million contract was viewed by Packers fans as a bit excessive.

Why is that?

First, because MVS is a poor pass catcher. Sure, his speed commands respect from defenses, but his penchant for dropping passes makes him a bit of a liability. Sure, he played a big role in the Chiefs’ march to last season’s Super Bowl, and was the Packers’ top receiver in their loss to Tampa Bay in the 2020 NFC Championship.

That being said, in his career, MVS has only caught 50% of passes thrown to him. On Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles, with 1:47 remaining in the game, Mahomes hit a perfectly thrown ball to a wide-open MVS deep in the end zone. MVS had to dive to get his hands on Mahomes’ pass, but he got it. And then he dropped it.

While the drop wasn’t the primary (or even the primary) reason for Kansas City’s loss, it certainly didn’t help the Chiefs’ cause, and Packers’ fans were quick to criticize MVS after the play took place.

If there are any fans who know what it’s like to lose a pass to MVS, then it’s the Packers fans. And after the play above, they were out in force on social media.

When MVS was with Green Bay, Packers beat writer Mark Daniels asked LaFleur what it would take for him to live with MVS, and a lot of people were mad at the time.

Now it seems like a lot of people want to ask Andy Reid what it would take to live with him.
