The Green Bay Packers are expected to announce the $60 million signing of quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the near future.

The Green Bay Packers demonstrated their commitment to the future in the off-season of 2023. Whether that future will be successful remains to be seen, as the team has a wealth of young players, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Jordan Love, the fourth-year quarterback, has been the primary backup to Aaron Rodgers for the past three seasons, but his current contract does not expire until the 2024 season. This could change in the near future.

Green Bay Packers are expected to allocate approximately $60 million to quarterback Jordan Love.

LeClaire provided a detailed analysis of what an extension for Jordan Love would look like for the Green Bay Packers. He noted that the Packers have the option to extend Love through 2024, which is beneficial in two ways: it allows them to structure a more favorable contract as Love will be making $6 million annually in 2024. Additionally, it provides them with leverage as they are not obligated to extend Love, so they can do so if it is a sensible negotiation.

Taking Geno Smith’s contract as a benchmark and adding a few million due to cap inflation, LeClaire believes that the Packers could agree to a two-year contract for Love of two hundred and fifty million dollars. This would be a reasonable mid-level contract for a player who has not earned more than twenty-five million dollars in the NFL. For the Packers, this would amount to a $22 million annual average with no guarantees beyond 2024.

Will the Packers Continue Their Commitment To Love Beyond 2024?

Regardless of the Packers’ record at the conclusion of the regular season, it would be a surprise if they were willing to part with Love after one or two seasons of starting. He has matured significantly in the eyes of the coaching staff during his time with the team. At the conclusion of his first year, the team did not expect to win a Super Bowl, only to sign him to a long-term contract.

Just three years after taking the starting job from Rodgers, the Packers won a Super Bowl. Love is likely to be given a longer period of time to demonstrate his ability to be “the guy” in Green Bay, as the Packers have added a number of weapons close to Love’s age. The front office hopes that these weapons will contribute to the growth of Love and the formation of an elite offense in the years to come. There is no reason to give up on this growth after just one or two years.
