In January, Arsenal have made a move for Douglas Luiz.

Arsenal are looking to add Douglas Luiz to their ranks in the upcoming winter transfer window, according to a report from Football Insider. The former Manchester City midfielder is a key target for the Gunners, who are looking to strengthen their midfield.

Luiz, 25, joined Manchester City in 2017, but didn’t quite make the grade at the Etihad Stadium. He then moved to Aston Villa on a permanent basis in 2019. The Brazilian’s first few years at the club weren’t so great, but things have improved since the Spaniard took over.

Villa have been doing really well in the current season, currently sitting fifth in the league, only three points behind leaders City, and Luiz has been at the heart of their success. He has scored six goals in 12 league games so far this season.

His outstanding performances have not gone unnoticed and he has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates. One of the clubs interested in his services is Arsenal, who are looking to strengthen their midfield, with Luiz at the top of their list.

Arteta may have completed the signing of Declan Rice in the summer, but the Spaniard is still keen to add another centre-back to his squad.

He wants to have Luiz at his disposal, and with Thomas Partey’s future in doubt at the club, it makes sense.

Arsenal are willing to do whatever it takes to bring Luiz to the club this winter, with their board ready to go big again in January.

Jorginho’s and Elneny’s futures are also up in the air, as they are both out of contract after the season.

Therefore, by signing the former City midfielder, they are looking to maintain both depth and quality in their squad. And Luiz’s recent form will certainly help them in the race for the top spot. However, it will be difficult to convince him to leave Villa, as his contract is up in 2026.
