With Burnley looking set to suffer relegation barring a miracle, and Brownhill’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, he has now attracted interest from a number of Premier League sides.
However, signing him may now prove to be more difficult.
Burnley set to activate contract clause for Josh Brownhill A report from TEAMtalk has revealed that Crystal Palace are among the club keeping a close eye on Brownhill, but Burnley are set to activate a one-year extension in his contract, with the view to offering him a new deal.
Whilst this means that interested parties will not be able to sign him for free in the summer, he could still be available if he refuses to extend his deal, but it is unclear what kind of fee would be necessary.
Burnley have already decided to activate his extension, with West Ham and Wolves among the clubs Palace would be competing with for his signature.
What will Brownhill bring to Crystal Palace?

The £45,000-a-week midfielder can play in both deep and advanced midfield and will bring a combination of end product and energy to the middle of the park.

He has made 144 appearances for Burnley, scoring 12 goals and providing 15 assists, and has extensive experience in the Premier League, having played in 89 games.

Central midfield is not a priority for Palace at the moment, with Jefferson Lerma, Cheik Doucoure and Will Hughes in great form, attacking players should be targeted, but Brownhill could be kept for the summer may become a target.
It will be interesting to see how the club’s management situation develops.
