One NBA championship is worth its weight in gold. Getting to the top of the league’s mountain is exceedingly tricky. If your favorite team has accomplished that goal in your lifetime, consider yourself lucky.
If you’re a Golden State Warriors fan, you’re exceedingly lucky. They haven’t merely won a championship in recent years – they’ve won several. That said, it’s not likely that the Warriors will repeat that feat in 2023-24.
At least they’re not the Brooklyn Nets. This organization has never won an NBA title. They surely won’t break that streak in 2023-24.
Give the Nets this much: they tried. It wasn’t so long ago that the Nets had serious title aspirations. With Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving on their roster, the Nets had more talent than anyone in the NBA.
Did they build their team the right way? Different people will give you different answers. Some will point to the Warriors as the superior team-building model. They’ll see it’s better to draft your core and let them develop chemistry.
For the Nets, this deal has a major benefit and a drawback. They would have to decide whether the benefit was worth the drawback. Allow us to elaborate.
Wiggins’ contract is not ideal. Meanwhile, the Nets already have a problematic contract on their books with Ben Simmons. They’ll have messy books following this deal. At the same time, they’ll also have a lightly protected first-round pick.
The Warriors are struggling. They looked stronger with Draymond Green out of the lineup for some time. By now, that doesn’t seem to be the case either. The Warriors are struggling – put.
This team needs to make some decisions. They could rebuild – the Warriors have some young talent. At the same time, they also have a Stephen Curry, who still looks like a superstar. If the Warriors made a significant roster upgrade, they could still join the ranks of the league’s contenders.
