According to the Italian publication Calciomercato, Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly vying for the signing of Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries during the next transfer window.

It was believed that the Reds will want to bolster their backline in the summer of 2017 after having trouble with their defensive problems the previous campaign. But instead of adding to the defense by signing anyone before the deadline, they chose to concentrate on improving their engine room.

After strengthening other sections of the squad the previous time, it seems Liverpool is now looking to add a new fullback to improve their backline.

The Calciomercato report states that Liverpool has chosen to express interest in signing the Netherlands international Dumfries in order to provide assistance for Trent Alexander-Arnold, having been pleased by his recent good performances.

The report also states that if Inter is forced to cash in, they may demand a fee of approximately £35 million, meaning the Merseyside club will have to shell out a significant sum of money to secure the 27-year-old’s services.

According to Battle Calciomercato, Dumfries has all the qualities needed to succeed in the Premier League, making him a fantastic addition for Jurgen Klopp’s team if they can entice him to Anfield.

But according to the source, Man Utd is also preparing a move for him, thus Liverpool will have a difficult time completing any potential transfer for Dumfries from their bitter rival.

United have long been linked with a move for the Dutchman but have yet to make a concrete approach to secure his signature. So it remains to be seen if they decide to move for him next year to strengthen their back line.

At 6ft 2in, the Inter star is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing from the back, excellent at crossing wide areas and can also score important goals.

So he could be a good signing for Liverpool or Man Utd if both clubs secure his signature in the upcoming transfer window. It will be interesting to see who finally manages to land Dumfries when the Reds face the record Premier League champions next year.
