According to Football Insider, Brentford could make a huge profit by selling Aaron Hickey to the Premier League giants. Arsenal and Liverpool are interested in the versatile full-back. But the Scotland international may not want to miss out on mid-season as he sticks to regular game time
Aaron Hickey was one of those interesting players who showed patience throughout his career. When he broke through to Hearts, the full-back did not jump at first sight as clubs in England competed for his signature. Instead, he moved to Italy and joined Bologna to continue his promising start. After a long spell with the Serie A side, Hickey attracted huge interest from the Premier League as his profile suited the role of full-back or wing-back. There was a lot of talk about Arsenal, but Brentford convinced the player to join them.

The 21-year-old full-back joined the Bees in a £14m deal, rising to £18m. And so far, he seems worth the whole investment. Now that he is having a good season, some giants are already looking to sign him from Brentford. Arsenal and Liverpool are among those eyeing the 21-year-old Scot. Hickey’s versatility to play equally well with both feet makes him an interesting option. Today’s top teams are looking for players with multiple qualities and for a defender Brentford’s stars tick a lot of boxes.
Arsenal have been looking for such a player and even Hickey has been on their shortlist in the past. Mikel Arteta would relish the opportunity to find someone who can cover both back positions and see him as an ideal addition to his squad.

The pressing interest from Liverpool might have been prompted by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s health problems. Although the England international might soon make a comeback, the Reds might require a player who can play either flank when necessary.

In contrast, Brentford is thought of as a selling club, and as Thomas Frank recently discussed Toney in that regard, the club is willing to examine any bids made for their players. They will demand a sizeable sum from Hickey in exchange as they aim to make a sizable return on their investment.

Hickey would appear to be a player with high expectations to compete at the highest level. He wants to continue playing, though, as the upcoming Euros are front of mind.
