The Cincinnati Bengals made a massive investment in their offense heading into the 2023 season, signing Joe Burrow to a contract extension.
Burrow’s extension is for five seasons, and it could be worth up to $275 million in total.
With a deal of this size, many fans and analysts have expressed concerns that the Bengals are paying him so much money, which doesn’t leave a lot of room for them to sign other players.
The Bengals have a lot of contracts to consider in the offseason, and with this in mind, many have indicated that Joe Mixon will be a contract causality in the offseason, as the team hopes to save some money.
Mixon responded to a Twitter comment made by the “NFL Rumors” page, where he indicated that this was a rumor that circulated last season, seemingly saying that he isn’t going anywhere.
The good news for the Bengals is that the running market has taken a massive hit over the past several years.
Running backs used to have extreme value from a contractual perspective, but because of the volatility of injuries at the position, the dollar value of contracts has gone down, and the commitment from a team to a player has also gotten smaller.
Regardless of what happens in the offseason, it will be interesting to see how the Bengals perform in 2024, knowing their shortcomings from this year.
