After losing offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, the Cincinnati Bengals now need to look for a new OC. And while they have someone they can promote internally, it might be difficult to retain him as well.
Callahan is leaving the Bengals after the Tennessee Titans hired him to replace Mike Vrabel and become their next head coach. This opens up Cincinnati’s vacancy at the position. While there are already some names being floated for the role, the team’s quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher is someone expected to be in the running for it.
The problem for the Bengals is Pitcher has been gaining interest from other opposing teams looking for an offensive coordinator as well, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
“The Bengals have an in-house replacement for Callahan as OC in QBs coach Dan Pitcher, but he has a full docket of OC interviews this week. Sources say he has a zoom with the Patriots tomorrow, then flies to Las Vegas for the #Raiders at night. He has the Saints on Thursday,” Rapoport shared on Monday.
It remains to be seen what the Cincinnati Bengals will do when it comes to their open OC role, but if they plan to keep Dan Pitcher, they will need to act fast.
It’s not a surprise why Dan Pitcher has gotten the interest of plenty of teams. After all, he has worked with quarterback Joe Burrow since the Cincinnati Bengals drafted the quarterback in 2020.
Pitcher also helped in developing backup QB Jake Browning, who took over from Burrow when the superstar signal-caller got injured during the 2023 season.
Considering his body of work, Pitcher is definitely due for a promotion. However, whether that comes in the Bengals organization or somewhere else remains to be seen.
For now, Bengals fans can only wait on what the team does next.
