The unpleasant reality of Ethan Horvath’s club position became clear one day after he defeated Oman with the U.S. men’s national team.

Horvath was left out of Nottingham Forest’s 25-man Premier League squad on Wednesday, underscoring just how far removed the 28-year-old is from club minutes.

The international teammate Matt Turner, the club’s current starter, the recently signed Odysseas Vlachodimos, and the representative of Wales Wayne Hennessey were all chosen ahead of the Colorado native.

While on loan at Luton Town last season, Horvath started games and contributed to the team’s promotion to the Premier League. However, the Hatters decided against making the change permanent.

Horvath won’t be able to participate in the Premier League until at least January. Horvath faces several months without seeing any club action as Forest has already been eliminated from the Carabao Cup and playing time in the FA Cup appears improbable.

The only way to prevent that outcome is to make a last-minute transfer to one of the dwindling handful of leagues where the summer transfer window is still open.

Horvath, who has nine USMNT appearances to his name, backed up Turner at the 2014 World Cup.

Steffen is included in Man City’s Premier League roster.
Zack Steffen of the USMNT was selected for Manchester City’s Premier League team in a somewhat unexpected move.

Steffen is one of the four goalkeepers for the Premier League winners, along with starter Ederson, Scott Carson, and Stefan Ortega.

But don’t anticipate Steffen to play for City. The goalkeeper, who underwent knee surgery in June and spent last season on loan with Middlesbrough, has previously stated a desire to permanently depart City.
