Columbus, Ohio — It didn’t take long for Ohio State to locate one of its newest linebackers.

Cade Stover, a tight end who entered the program in 2019 as a defensive end, is the cousin of new signee Garrett Stover. After that, he split his time between tight end and linebacker until committing to the position full-time.

Garrett also graduates from Sunbury’s Big Walnut High School, which is around thirty minutes from Ohio State’s campus.

On signing day, coach Ryan Day remarked, “Out of Big Walnut here, brings the same type of mentality that you know with Cade.” He is versatile enough to play safety or linebacker for us. However, once more, incredibly gifted athlete who will play a significant role in our class.

Garrett was listed as the No. 9 linebacker, No. 5 player in Ohio, and No. 105 player overall in the 2024 class. He was a recruit rated four stars. Additionally, he will be able to play a variety of positions in defensive coordinator Jim Knowles’ defensive scheme once he arrives on campus. In the class with him was Payton Pierce from Ohio State, who provided some possibilities at linebacker.

On defense, Garrett, however, is a versatile player with good speed and size. His physique and mindset enable him to excel on special teams as well.

Given that his cousin was a standout player on the 2023 squad and that he lives close to Columbus, adding him to the class may have been an easy pitch. That doesn’t, however, lessen the significance of what he can offer the Buckeyes.

Day stated of Garrett and fellow Ohio signee running back Sam Williams-Dixon, “Both Ohio guys that we talked about are going to be important.” “Just being a member of the family and observing Cade and everything else, Garrett…When they get at work each day, they will bring that mindset with them. The guys who are closest to Columbus must take the initiative.
