Rashaan Evans, a former linebacker for Alabama, was dismissed by the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday, marking the end of his tenure with the team.
The news was released soon after Evans was detained on Tuesday for suspected marijuana possession. The organization then waived Evans the following day to make room on the active roster for offensive tackle Matt Waletzko.
Following the season-ending neck injury that sidelined starting middle linebacker Leighton Vander Esch, Evans signed with the Cowboys practice squad back in October. He concluded his career with nine total tackles while playing in nine games for the Cowboys, making one start and primarily serving as a special teams player.
The Tennessee Titans selected Evans with the 22nd overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, and he would play for them for the first four seasons of his career. In 2022, he signed a contract to play for the Atlanta Falcons, where he played in all 17 games and recorded 159 total tackles—a career-best that tied for eighth most in the NFL—while appearing in all 17 games.
