SEGUNDO, California – Guard Gabe Vincent of the Los Angeles Lakers will be sidelined for a minimum of two months following arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.
The Lakers declared on Wednesday that Vincent had the procedure. In eight weeks, the team doctors will reevaluate him.
Since joining the Lakers in the offseason to serve as their backup point guard, Vincent has only made five appearances in games. In October, he participated in the Lakers’ first four games of the season. However, he missed the next 23 games due to knee injury.
On December 20, he came back to play for 14 minutes against Chicago, but he was promptly shut down once more.
Vincent played for the Miami Heat for his first four NBA seasons. Last season, he recorded a career-high 9.4 points per game, 2.5 assists, and a 33.4% 3-point shooting percentage.
Because of Max Christie’s lackluster play, D’Angelo Russell’s inconsistent play, and Vincent’s absence, the Lakers have failed to rotate a guard consistently. They’ve been forced to experiment with a number of different lineups and to send the ball to LeBron James more often in order to make him their main playmaker.
