Gaints boss sacked 7 times…..
Derek Carr passed for three touchdowns and New Orleans had seven sacks of New York’s Tommy DeVito, leading the Saints to a 24-6 victory over the Giants on Sunday. It was one of Carr’s best games of the season, coming after he had been booed at home in recent weeks. He was 23 of 28 for 286 yards and no turnovers in one of the most efficient performances of his first full season with the Saints, who entered the game with a 7-7 record. Receiver Chris Olave was inactive due to an ankle injury, and Carr completed seven of his eight passes for seven yards. The Saints also had seven sacks of DeVito. The win left the Saints tied with Tampa Bay at 7-7 in the NFC South and ended a hot streak for the Giants, who had won three in a row.
The Giants are now assured of a losing record and enter the final three games with a slim chance of making the playoffs as the last wild-card team in the NFC.
DeVito completed 20 of 34 passes for 177 yards, but was taken out of the game for New York’s last four offensive plays in the second quarter after a 6-yard scramble in which he was hit from behind by a high hit by defensive end Jonathan Casillas.
Tyrod Taylor had two completions for 13 yards before the Giants’ punter, Jamie Gillan (in place of injured punter Randy Bullock), kicked a 40-yard game-tying field goal to give New Orleans a 7-6 lead at the half. Carr’s two second-half touchdowns, as well as a 50-yard Blake Gruppe field goal, helped the Saints win the game.
Waller, who had been out for five games with a torn hamstring, was one of the Giants’ top targets, with four catches for 40 yards. However, the offense as a whole had 193 total yards and converted only two of 16 third-down opportunities.
The Giants: Bullock suffered a hamstring injury on a kickoff in the second quarter after he had kicked a 56-yard goal on the opening possession. He did not return.
The Saints: Gillan made his first field goal of the season after missing his only previous attempt from 61 yards in 2020 with Cleveland.
IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: New Orleans was without its starting right tackle, Olave, due to an ankle injury. Starting right guard Ryan Ramczyk was sidelined with a knee injury before the start of the game.
INJURY WATCH: New York Giants (1-2) at Philadelphia (2-2)
New Orleans (2-1) at Los Angeles Rams (3-2) on Thursday night
