Former Steelers Defender Blasts…..

The Pittsburgh Steelers extended their contract for three seasons after one last season, but one former player is not seeing the production a defensive tackle of Larry’s salary should.

Ogunjobi, 26, signed with the Steelers in March of 2021 for three years at a salary of $28,75 million. He has a total of 33 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss (TFL), 6 quarterback hits, 1.5 forced fumbles, 1.5 fumble recoveries and 2 pass deflections this season.

However, Chris Hoke, a former Steelers defensive tackle, is not seeing the type of production he would like to see. Hoke discussed the lack of production on a podcast he co-hosted.

Listen to the entire podcast:

When you’re getting paid that much, they’re paying you to show up,” Hoke said, “and we talked about it in the past. He’s big, he’s strong, he’s explosive. His technique is off the mark. It’s one of those plays where he’s not playing with his hands, and he makes a play, and then he disappears for a long time because of the way he plays. When you’re trying to make a play, you’re not going to consistently make a play. You might make one here and there, but for the most part, you’re going to get caught up and stuck.”

Ogunjobi has a $13 million cap hit next season, which is the maximum on a three-year contract. Hoke said there’s no rumor going around that the Steelers are looking for a defensive tackle.
