Steelers legend calls out coaching inefficiencies.

Ben Roethlisberger, a former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, expressed his frustration with the team’s current state, criticizing the coaching staff and questioning the team’s commitment to its roots.

Roethlisberger spoke on his podcast about the team’s recent defeat to the Patriots, and he focused on coaching decisions. Specifically, he said that the timeouts were being wasted due to penalties, and if they had been called at the end of the game, the team would have had a chance to win. “When you’re losing timeouts to penalties, there’s too many people on the field and there’s not enough people on the field,” he said. “You can’t afford to burn a timeout late in a game, and to me, that’s… that’s bad coaching.

Some may feel it’s necessary to call a timeout in these situations, as timeouts can be a valuable asset. However, Roethlisberger pointed out that if we had one more timeout, we would be able to work the center of the field and give Boz Boswell a 60-yard field goal, which would give him a chance to tie the game. He also noted that he likes his chances in overtime, as they had scored all their points first and the momentum had changed. Roethlisberger also commented on the lack of a strong leader on the current team, comparing it to his past experiences with veterans such as Jerome Bettis or Hines Ward. He asked, “Who’s grabbing someone by the mask and saying, ‘That’s not what we do’? Is that what’s going on right now?”

The former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback railed against the perception that the team had lost its identity and culture, stressing the importance of players understanding and maintaining the Steelers’ legacy, drawing comparisons to the team’s past successes in the 1970s.
