Packers urged to bring back ex-starter.

In light of this, Bleacher Report has a new Packers rumor log, and it’s an interesting one: Bring Back Sammy Watkins. The veteran wide receiver spent last season with Green Bay, playing nine games and starting three. He was released nearly a year ago due to a string of health issues.

The Packers are still dealing with Christian Watson’s injury.

Watkins is a familiar face in Green Bay and the Packers’ offense. He had a 93-yard reception in Week 2 last year, but that proved to be the highlight of his time in Green Bay. The following week, he suffered a hamstring injury and was placed on injured reserve.

B/R’s case for bringing Watkins back is as follows:

In light of this, Bleacher Report has a new Packers rumor log, and it’s an interesting one: Bring Back WR Sammy Watkins.

Watkins, a nine-year veteran, played in just three games last season, after being released by Green Bay nearly a year ago due to a string of health issues. He did have a 93-yard, three-catch performance in Week 2, but that proved to be the highlight of his time in Green Bay. The following week, he suffered a hamstring injury and was placed on injured reserve.

With Christian Watson’s injury still a concern, it’s no surprise that the Packers have been linked to Watkins. B/R’s case for the Packers is this:

Christian Watson suffered a season-ending injury to his hammy last week against the Chiefs, and the timetable for his return is still unknown. LaFleur told the media on Thursday that he hopes Watson will be back ‘as soon as possible.’

It could be beneficial to have a veteran receiver on hand for the later stages of the season, and Watkins fits the profile of Watson as a larger receiver who can win in the red zone. A nine-year pro who spent most of 2022 in Green Bay, Watkins should have some familiarity and rapport with Jordan Love.

The Packers have been linked to veteran wide receivers all season, from stars like former Packer Davante Adams and Bills’ Stefon Diggs to middle-of-the-road players like Oakland’s Hunter Renfrow.

Packers wide receiver rumors have been swirling all season

Would a late addition like Sammy Watkins be a good addition?

The Packers are dealing with injuries and have no shot at making the playoffs after losing to the Giants.

Let’s give Love the benefit of the doubt. After the loss to the New York Giants, he could have blamed the team’s lack of a running back or the injury of Christian Watson. But he didn’t.

“I think we have enough weapons on our offense,” Love said in the postgame news conference. “Guys have come in and made big plays when people have been out, so it’s not something I’m thinking about. As I said, we have plenty of weapons on offense and guys are coming in and making big plays.”
