Following injuries at the position, the Packers have signed TE.

Depending on what happens in the tight end and fullback room, Joel Wilson could be back in action within the next couple of weeks.

Green Bay Packers tight end Joel Wilson has been officially signed by the team, NFL reporter Aaron Wilson reported. Wilson worked out with the Packers on Monday after they worked out six players yesterday including three tight ends.

The signing of Wilson is significant for several reasons. First, the Packers are short at tight end after Luke Musgrave was placed on injured reserve with a ruptured kidney after their win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Musgrave is expected to return in three weeks at the most, but the Packers coaching staff has not been willing to say publicly that Musgrave will return this season.

Josiah Deguara (hip)

Tight end/fullback Deguara did not practice on Monday, meaning his hip injury may not be fully healed before this week’s game against Kansas City Chiefs.

When Deguara was sidelined last week, the Packers brought in Henry Pearson from the practice squad so he could play in the game.

There are only three elevations to the practice squad before a team has to bring the player up to 53-man to use him. With six games remaining and Musgrave likely out for the season, it makes sense that the Packers would look for another player at the position.

On the 25th of November, 1993, we were at Texas Stadium for the Thanksgiving Day game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Miami Dolphins. The Cowboys held a one-point edge at the half, but in the second half, the Dolphins were lining up for a game-tying field goal in the closing seconds. A big kick would give the Dolphins a shot at a statement victory over the defending Super Bowl champions. Before we can see what happens next, there are a few things we need to unpack first.

First, let’s go back in time to November 25, 1993.

Wilson is Green Bay’s only tight end on the practice squad. The Packers currently have one open spot on their 53-man roster, with Bo Melton expected to return to Green Bay’s practice squad after being released from the active roster on Monday.

The Packers released Melton, along with running back James Robinson, on Monday, leaving two open roster spots that could potentially be used to bring Darnell Savage, a safety, and Eric Stokes, a tight end, off the injured reserve.

Wilson signed with the Saints as an UDFA this spring, but was released after a failed physical. He then spent two months on the Bills’ practice squad. He has yet to appear in a regular-season game in the NFL.

The Packers chose to sign Wilson over three former third-round picks, including blocking tight end Devin Asiai, and a plus athlete named Nick Eubanks whom the team had worked out previously in 2021.

Following the Packers’ Week 13 win over the Lions, Jordan Love discusses his future with the team. We also look at the Bears’ win over the Vikings Monday night that increases the Packers’ chances of making the playoffs. Plus, Packers defensive end Julius Peppers is a semi-finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Finally, we look at the young Packers players who are leading the team’s turnaround in the middle of the season. Lastly, we pick the top play of the Packers’ Week 12 win over the Lions.
