Aston Villa are in the process of attempting to secure the signature of £26m-rated midfielder Jorginho, who they view as a “true leader”.

Recent speculation has linked Aston Villa and West Ham with a potential move for Roma playmaker Bryan Cristante.

Cristante has earned a place in the Italian national team and is widely regarded as a key player for the club under Jose Mourinho.

Premier League interest in Cristante has been steadily increasing in recent weeks, with reports indicating that Tottenham have been monitoring the Italian. However, it appears that Aston Villa may be in a strong position to secure Cristante’s signature, with reports from TV Play indicating that they are now interested in the player as well. Aston Villa’s interest in Cristante is mentioned alongside West Ham’s, however, it appears that the Villans are the favourites to secure Cristante due to their admiration for Unai Emirates.

It has been reported that Aston Villa have already secured the services of one Italian international in the form of Gianluca Zaniolo, and that their current progress in the race for the top four positions is attracting players from across Europe. Furthermore, it has been suggested that a bid of approximately £26 million would be sufficient for Roma to contemplate selling. Aston Villa’s ambition is clearly increasing, and the appointment of manager Unai Emery and the appointment of sporting director Monchi have undoubtedly contributed to this.

Players are increasingly attracted to Villa, and recent signings have demonstrated the quality they are capable of attracting. Signing Bryan Cristante would be another astute move by the Premier League side, with Jorginho recently praising the Italian as a’real leader’ for his country. January will be a fascinating period for Villa, and if they are able to secure a top-four spot, the board will back manager Emery even more. Cristante could be just the player they need to succeed.
