Lions’ David Montgomery makes significant progress toward Week 10 return from broken ribs

Running back David Montgomery is set to make his Lions debut against Los Angeles Chargers this week.

Lions RB David Montgomery has made progress in his recovery from a rib injury and is expected to play in Week 10.

According to Around The NFL, Lions RB David Montgomery was at full practice on Wednesday.

The Lions have been without running back David Montgomery for the past two games. He suffered a rib injury against the Buccaneers in Week 6, leaving the game in the second quarter and going to the locker room. He did not return. X-rays came back negative.

In addition to Montgomery’s absence, the Lions have also lost their starting halfback, Jahmyr Gibbs, to a torn hamstring.

Lions looking forward to David Montgomery’s return

The Lions had to rely on their third-stringer, Craig Raynolds, to fill the void left by Montgomery. Raynolds rushed for just 15 yards on 10 carries, and Detroit relied on their passing game (353 yards) to defeat Tampa Bay 20-6 in Week 8.

In Montgomery’s absence, the Lions turned to the rookie, Jhuremeryr Gibbs, who exploded for 152 yards and 26 carries in Detroit’s 26-14 victory over the Las Vegas

Gibbs’ big game got the attention of Lions head coach Dan Campbell. The latter said he will ensure Gibbs will split carries with David Montgomery moving forward.

Montgomery had racked up 385 yards and six touchdowns on 94 carries prior to his rib injury. He had three touchdowns in Detroit’s 34-20 win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 3.

David Montgomery joined the Lions after spending his first three NFL seasons with the Chicago Bears. The 6-2 Lions hope to continue their resurgence when he returns against the Chargers in Week 10.
