The Assumption High School volleyball program will be without powerful outside hitter Sydney Helmers this season.
Rockets coach Ron Kordes said Tuesday that Helmers, a senior, quit the team last week.

Assumption is ranked No. 1 in the state in the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association’s preseason poll and is set to open its season at 7 p.m. Tuesday at No. 13 Male.
Kordes said he’s “leaving the door open” if Helmers wants to return to the team.
