Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski and Ange Postecoglou concur that he has “unbelievable talent.”

Current Tottenham news: midfielder Pape Matar Sarr is praised by both Dejan Kulusevski and Ange Postecoglou.

Following his breakthrough season, Pape Matar Sarr has received high appreciation from both Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou and forward Dejan Kulusevski. Under the careful supervision of Fabio Paratici, the 21-year-old was signed by Spurs in the summer of 2021 and immediately loaned back to Ligue 1 club Metz for that season.

After that, Sarr received a warm welcome from his parent club prior to the 2022–2023 campaign, which Antonio Conte was then leading. The Senegal international was frequently benched in favor of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp, and Rodrigo Bentancur, but a string of injuries and suspensions forced him to start the Champions League last-16 match against AC Milan.

Rather than crumbling under the pressure, Sarr flourished and proved to Tottenham supporters that he was capable of a bright future in north London. But Sarr played just 74 minutes of Premier League football for the rest of the season after Conte was fired less than a month later.

When Postecoglou first took over in the summer, he favored Skipp in midfield with Yves Bissouma and James Maddison. However, he finally took a risk and started Sarr against Manchester United, and he hasn’t looked back. Sarr opened the scoring in a 2-0 victory for Spurs over Bournemouth before contributing an assist in another 2-0 victory for Spurs over Bournemouth.

Sarr’s direct goal contributions have decreased, but he still plays a crucial role in Spurs’ build-up play, as shown by his brilliant play-making pass to Brennan Johnson against Crystal Palace, which resulted in Son Heung-min scoring the game’s winning goal seconds later.

Perhaps Sarr’s best quality is his engine, which has even confused Postecoglou about where his ideal midfield spot is going forward. When asked if he was destined to play as a No. 6, No. 8, or No. 10, Postecoglou responded on Thursday, “The good thing is that he can run and play all three at once.” “Considering his age, I believe that Pape’s biggest asset is his willingness to take on the demands of playing in a midfield position, especially for us since that position requires a lot of versatility from him.
