Breaking News: Lakers finally sign 25 years old Trae young for $180 Atlanta Hawks … See more…
The Los Angeles Lakers season ended on Monday at the hands of the Denver Nuggets, who swept them in the Western Conference Finals.
While the emotion will still be raw for a few days, the decision-makers on the Los Angeles Lakers are already looking at the future, and per recent reports, that involved the potential acquisition of a superstar point guard.
“For what it’s worth, Kyrie Irving and Trae Young, two All-Star-level point guards, were both sitting courtside in Los Angeles for the second time this postseason. Young, like James and Davis, is a Klutch client,” reported Jovan Buha for The Athletic.
The Lakers have had internal discussions about what a hypothetical trade offer for Young could look like this summer, according to multiple league sources not authorized to speak publicly.
The Los Angeles Lakers had a big issue with D’Angelo Russell and the way he played in the series against the Denver Nuggets. His inability to provide much playmaking when he couldn’t score was a big issue for the team and cost them during crucial moments in each of the four games.
The team has long sought Kyrie Irving, but recent reports have suggested that their efforts have cooled. If that is the case, then it could be that they are thinking of pursuing Young instead. The Atlanta Hawks have stagnated despite the addition of Dejounte Murray and could move on from Young, although it’s unlikely that he will go to the Lakers, considering their lack of assets.
Trae Young Has Been Subjected To Some Criticism Last Season
After Trae Young led the Atlanta Hawks to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021, his stock has dropped quite a bit. Young averaged 26.2 points during the regular season but didn’t make the All-Star or All-NBA Teams. His shooting percentages were quite poor, averaging just 42.9% from the field and 33.5% from three-point range. It all culminated in him being chosen by some of his peers as the most overrated player in the league.
It seemed that the Atlanta Hawks would build around Trae Young, and they have tried, but with the way things have turned out, a change of scenery might not be the worst idea. For the Lakers, it would make sense as it might convince LeBron James to stay and it could be a Big 3 that moves the needle and gets them a star that is young and has massive upside.
