CAF POTY: Osimhen competes against players from Nottingham Forest, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham, and 23 others.
Victor Osimhen is one of the most prolific forwards in European football, having helped Napoli to their third Scudetto victory and the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League in the past year. He has been nominated alongside Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, Arsenal midfield stalwart Thomas Partey, Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, and Tottenham Hotspur midfielders Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr.
The player for the Nigeria national team received a nomination for the Ballon d’Or and placed eighth, which was the highest ranking of any African player and the highest place a Nigerian player has ever held in the award’s history. With Nwankwo Kanu’s victory in 1999, Osimhen hopes to become the first Nigerian to take home the prize.Previous Nigerian winners of the CAF POTY include Victor Ikpeba (1997), Emmanuel Amunike (1994), and Rashidi Yekini (1993).
