JUST IN: Lakers finally signed Mavs’ star Luka Doncic for $400 million deal… See more
Doncic has fulfilled the necessary 65-game criteria for this season, making him eligible for MVP and All-NBA honors. Additionally, he will meet the super-max criteria upon being named All-NBA this offseason.
However, due to the seven-year service requirement in the NBA, the Slovenian cannot sign the extension until 2025, as he is currently in his sixth season.
Doncic is on track to become the first player in NBA history to reach the $70 million mark in salary. He currently makes over $40 million per year.
The 25-year-old is playing the best basketball of his career, as he is averaging a league-leading and career-high 34.0 points, 9.1 rebounds, 9.8 assists, and 1.5 steals. Doncic is shooting at 48.9 percent from the field, 38.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 78.2 percent from the free-throw line.
The Mavs (45-29) have won 11 of their last 12 games, and they now hold the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference standings with a record of 45-29.
