I AM LEAVING, Blue’s forward Neal Begovich accept a deal of $70.5 Million to leave Duke blue… See more…
Nevertheless, Begovich, a 6-foot-9, 225-pound forward with four years of college experience, announced that he’s joining “The Brotherhood” via the following tweet on Wednesday afternoon.
Presumably, he’ll be a graduate student at Duke next year. He should have the option to play two years in Durham due to the redshirt he was granted as a freshman in 2019-20 and the extra year of eligibility that the NCAA gave everyone who played during the truncated 2020-21 season.
But don’t expect Neal Begovich to be anything more than an extra practice body next season. After all, he played only 17 games in his Cardinal career, averaging only 0.9 points and 0.6 rebounds across 2.9 minutes per outing in primarily mop-up duty.
The San Francisco native was unrated and unranked as a recruit in the 2019 class. And he didn’t earn a scholarship at Stanford until last summer.
Meanwhile, it’s still possible that Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer and his gang will reel in a formidable big man from the transfer portal. The only known potential target is 7-footer Aziz Bandaogo out of Utah Valley.
Also, Blue Devil fans are still awaiting Jeremy Roach’s decision about whether he will return to Duke for a senior campaign or pursue a pro career somewhere.
