NFL insider Adam Schefter stated that center Jason Kelce of the Philadelphia Eagles had retired after the team’s first-round playoff exit.
Later, Kelce came clean and denied that he had officially retired. He recently admitted that he was still debating since the feelings were still too raw on a podcast with former NBA player Shaquille O’Neal.
In a Pro Football Talk post, offensive lineman Jordan Mailata, a teammate of Kelce’s on the Philadelphia Eagles, has now publicly and strongly refuted the notion that Kelce might return the following season.
During Super Bowl week, Mailata told NBC Sports Philadelphia, via CBSSports.com, “There’s no shot.” Are you saying that even if he’s losing all of his money playing games and gambling at casinos, he will still return? Not in a manner. It’s too much fun for him. He is experiencing his life as it happens. And I will definitely miss him, dude. Being in the NFL and getting to know people like Jason Kelce has undoubtedly been the best six years of my life.
Despite the fact that there hasn’t been an official announcement regarding his retirement, Philadelphia Eagles C Jason Kelce met with several networks to discuss a career in broadcasting.
Kelce met with ESPN and Fox Sports as well as Amazon to discuss potential coverage of Thursday Night Football, according to Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports.
Kelce has worked with Amazon in the past as the “Kelce” documentary that focused on his 2022-2023 season was filmed for Amazon Prime Video. He also spent time in the booth with the Thursday Night Football broadcast team that included Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit.
Kelce has also shown his ability to speak on camera in his “New Heights” podcast with his brother Travis Kelce. Their podcast continues to grow as they have over 2.24 million subscribers on Youtube. Their most-viewed podcast episode has over 7.2 million views.
Philadelphia Eagles C Jason Kelce has grown into a fan-favorite player in his 13-year career. He helped the Eagles to a Super Bowl win in Super Bowl LII. He was Pro Football Focus’ highest-rated offensive lineman the year that they won the Super Bowl in 2017. He was crowned Pro Football Focus’ Run Blocker of the Year.
Kelce is a six-time first-team All-Pro on top of being a seven-time Pro Bowler. He was a finalist for the Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2021, which is given to players as praise for charitable actions.
His involvement as a fan of his brother during the Chiefs’ 2023 postseason run thrust him into the national spotlight even more. His antics at the game in which the Kansas City Chiefs took on the Buffalo Bills made him a nationwide fan favorite.
Jason Kelce has already carved out what could be a career that sends him to the Pro Football Hall of Fame regardless of whether he decides to come back for the 2024 season.
