That’s what Fotboll Direkt says.
What then was the position between Wolves and Aston Villa when Lucas Bergvall was eventually signed by Tottenham? Let’s examine this.
On transfer deadline day, the Sweden international shocked everyone by joining Spurs for £8.5 million.
But before Bergvall’s move to north London was official, Aston Villa and Wolves made moves to sign him, with the Midlanders even offering Djurgarden more money than Tottenham, according to Fotboll Direkt.
Barcelona was eager to sign the eighteen-year-old as well.
In the end, Bergvall had already informed Spurs he would join, thus according to Fotboll Direkt, Aston Villa and Wolves made their respective proposals too late in the day.
The teenager is believed to have been left flattered by interest from Unai Emery and Gary O’Neil, and allegedly told both clubs that he could not possibly change his mind at that stage of the transfer window.
In our view, Tottenham have found a diamond in the Swedish wonderkid.
Not only is Bergvall a tremendous footballer – he has even been compared to Jude Bellingham – but he is clearly a loyal figure who stays true to his word.
As aforesaid, Wolves and Aston Villa actually put more money on the table – which would have landed the Swede a larger cut of the transfer fee – although he opted to stay loyal to Tottenham after already striking a verbal agreement with Spurs.
To us, that says a lot about Bergvall’s mentality, and a senior debut is surely not far away – there could even be an opening for him under Ange Postecoglou this summer as Giovani Lo Celso looks set to depart for Galatasaray.
