Oklahoma football fans couldn’t help but admire one of their former players putting on a clinic on Monday during Super Wild Card Weekend. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosted the Philadelphia Eagles in the first-round finale, with two former Sooner gunslingers facing off in the nightcap. However, Tampa Bay’s Baker Mayfield, over Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts, shined brightest on the biggest stage. The former first-overall pick dominated for four quarters, leading his team to a convincing 32-9 victory. The Sooner faithful took to social media during and after the game, praising Mayfield for his playoff performance.

Baker Mayfield, a former gunslinger for the Oklahoma Sooners, finished the contest 22-0f-36 for 337 yards and three touchdowns. He added 16 yards on two carries. Without a few crucial fumbles from future Hall of Fame wide receiver Mike Evans and the dependable Cade Otton, Mayfield could have put up more productive stats. Oklahomans celebrated the achievement of their former signal callers with exuberant posts on Twitter, often known as X.

Prior to moving to Oklahoma, Mayfield began his career with the Texas Tech Red Raiders. In his three seasons there, he threw for a ridiculous 119 passing touchdowns against just 21 interceptions. During that time, the Sooners went 34-6 and won the Big 12 every year. In 2017, Mayfield threw for 4,622 yards and 43 touchdowns against six picks, earning him the Heisman Trophy Award. In addition to adding 311 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, he completed 71% of his passes. But Oklahoma’s 54-48 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in the College Football Playoff was a stunning defeat. In the defeat, Mayfield completed 287 yards of passing with two touchdowns and a pick.
