Jeremiah Collins, a freshman football player at Austin Peay, passed away on Friday night in Clarksville, Tennessee, after what the Associated Press is claiming was a single-car collision. Collins lost control of the pickup truck he was driving as it was pulling off a highway, according to the officials, and the vehicle flipped many times. Collins was taken to a nearby hospital and given care there, but upon arrival, doctors declared him dead.
In a statement issued by the school, Austin Peay coach Scotty Walden said, “We are all devastated and heartbroken by the loss of Jeremiah Collins.” “Jeremiah was a remarkable young man who consistently brought an amazing attitude and energy to his work. We offer our condolences and prayers to the Collins family for their untimely loss.”
Collins was speeding at the time of the collision, according to police, despite the fact that the driver did not appear to be impaired, according to ESPN. Collins was eighteen.
“Today, the Collins Family is in our thoughts and prayers,” said Gerald Harrison, the athletic director of Austin Peay, in a statement. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Jeremiah, and we will do everything we can to support his friends, family, and teammates at this time.”
As a member of the Oakland High School squad that won a state title in 2022, Collins graduated from Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, in the spring of 2023.
