INJURY NEWS: Updates on Injuries as Spring Training Nears…..

Nolan Gorman, Brendan Donovan, and Tommy Edman of the St. Louis Cardinals have all received injury updates as Major League Baseball teams begin spring training in less than a month.

Major League Baseball teams will begin spring training next month. In the meantime, here are some updates on injuries involving the St. Louis Cardinals. First, according to John Denton of MLB.com, lefty Nolan Gorman has been working with a nutrition program that has increased his flexibility and decreased his back inflammation. Gorman has battled back pain since a weight-lifting injury in 2020, and he wants to stick with the program to play more games in 2024.

The 23-year-old slugger hit 27 home runs and drove in 76 runs while playing in 119 games for St. Louis in the previous season. Combined, he hit.236 with an on-base percentage of.328.

Jeff Jones on Tommy Edman:

Heading into camp, Edman feels he might be a little slow on the hitting side. following a progression. Despite not having made any bat-to-ball contact this winter—aside from wiffle balls during his rehabilitation—he anticipates being ready for opening day.

The 28-year-old is coming off a season in which he hit.248 with a.307 on-base percentage and underwent wrist surgery in October. In 137 games, he stole 27 bases, hit 13 home runs, and collected 47 RBI.

And lastly, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that infielder Brendan Donovan, who underwent flexor surgery in August, intends to be ready for action by spring training:

For a month, Donovan’s surgically repaired right arm was restricted to a brace. The incision needed time to heal, so he was unable to even perspire. However, he was literate, so he began studying leadership development books and resources. All believe that taking action is the best course of action.

Instead of using stationary cycling sprints to regain his stamina, Donovan now dons spikes and launches balls across the infield. A lollipop was thrown first. The heat has come back now. He has two weeks left in his throwing program, and the following week, he will switch to a live hitting program for his hitting program. Everything is taking place in Jupiter, where Donovan and his spouse have moved to be near the team’s house while they are away from St. Louis.

He played in 95 games last season and hit.284 despite the injuries. He is a.283 hitter with 16 home runs and 79 RBI in his career.
